What is PWA?

The arterial pulse wave corresponds to a blood pressure change caused by the contraction of the heart.  As the heart contracts, it ejects a bolus of blood into the pressurized aorta.  The arterial pulse wave begins with aortic valve opening and the onset of left ventricular ejection.  The ejection of blood into the aorta generates a pressure wave that is propagated to other arteries throughout the body.
